IDAHO COBALT OPERATION (ICO)
Idaho Cobalt Operation (ICO) – The First Domestic Cobalt Mine in 50 Years.
Small Mine Development has contracted with Jervois Mining, USA to develop and bring into production the underground mine at the Idaho Cobalt Operation. ICO has completed extensive environmental review and permitting, and Jervois is currently building the concentrator and associated facilities for this exciting cobalt operation.
ICO is located near the historic town of Cobalt, which is west of the town of Salmon, Idaho. It is also located near the historic Blackbird Mine, which is now in reclamation and closure.
SMD installed highwall bolts, mesh, and rockfall fencing in the fall of 2021 and constructed two new portals. Development of the mine is underway. Development is typically 15’ w x 15’ h drifts and will follow the ore zone downdip. Mining will be accomplished using drift and fill, benching, and possibly backstoping. Once the mill is operational, paste filling will be utilized.
