IDAHO COBALT OPERATION (ICO)

Development of the First Domestic Cobalt Mine in 50 Years.

Jervois Mining, USA, is advancing the ICO Project. After years of extensive environmental review and permitting, construction of the project commenced in 2021. ICO is located near the historic town of Cobalt, which is west of the town of Salmon, Idaho. It is also located near the historic Blackbird Mine, which is now in reclamation and closure.

SMD installed highwall bolts, mesh, and rockfall fencing in the fall of 2021 and constructed two new portals. Approximately 13,000 feet of development has been completed before development of the mine was curtailed mid-year 2023 as cobalt prices languished. SMD has stayed performing care and maintenance and is driving an exploration drive under the DOD’s critical minerals program.

Development is typically 15’ wide x 16’ high drifts and will follow the ore zone downdip. Production mining will eventually be accomplished using drift and fill, benching, and possibly backstoping.
